Why would the EMF of an electrochemical cell be higher than its predicted value?
We made electrochemical cells at school today, and my Leclanche/dry cell had an EMF of 1.62V, which is higher than the expected 1.48V (using the standard reduction potentials table). Similarly, my lead-acid accumulator battery had a reading of 2V+, when it should be lower than/at 2V. The class had similar results.
Why is this? I would assume part of the reason would be because of the fact that we are not making our cells at STP. But are there other reasons?

That the temperature was not 298K and/or the solutions weren't 1M seem the most likely. Impurities in the electrodes could have an effect as well.
